Subject: Speaker Message #3: New ADA Strategic Plan and the 2008-2009 HOD and HLT Goals

What Do You Need to Know?
  • The new ADA Strategic Plan has been implemented as of June 1;
  • The 2008-2009 HOD/HLT Goals are available;
  • The list of members appointed to ADA committees and task forces is now available.
What Do You Need to Do? You need to review this information and inform members about the new Strategic Plan, HOD/HLT goals and the Association committee/task Force appointments. Help us to create excitement about the Strategic Plan and how the work of the HOD/HLT will move the plan forward.
When Do You Need to Complete It? Take advantage of every opportunity (1:1 conversations, meetings, e-mails, newsletters, etc.) over the coming year to remind member about the new ADA Strategic Plan and the important role each of them plans in achieving success.

New ADA Strategic Plan

  • The ADA Board of Directors is excited to present the new ADA Strategic Plan which became effective on June 1, 2008. This plan will be in affect until 2012.
  • You, as delegates, will need to assist the Board of Directors in spreading the word about the new plan. A copy of the plan can be found at the end of this message.
  • ADA has established a special page on the Web site for tools and resources related to the new plan. The link to this web page is www.eatright.org/cps/rde/xchg/ada/hs.xsl/16879_ENU_HTML.htm
  • This web page contains a PowerPoint presentation about the new plan, tips for implementing the new plan, key messages and the strategic plan map. This is an incredible site and will be useful to members.
  • As a result of the recent ADA Board of Directors retreat, the following is a summarization of the outcomes of our discussions:
    • Activated the new Strategic Plan and began deliberating on branding the uniqueness of the Registered Dietitian. Key components of this effort include reliance on every member’s involvement to help achieve success; the integration of strategies and financial and manpower resources among ADA and its organization units, including ADAF, CADE, CDR, DPGs and the Affiliates to maximize impact; and the recognition of the DTR as a critical member of the dietetics team.

2008-2009 HOD and HLT Goals

  • The HOD Core Function “Strategic Thinking/Visioning” sets the direction for establishing HOD and HLT goals for each program year (see HOD Manual, page A.4). This core function states “Develop annual objectives for HOD and HLT to govern the profession and support the Strategic Plan”.
  • At this time, the HOD Leadership Team has developed a set of goals for the House of Delegates and HLT to address during this program year.
  • At the top of this message, you will find the 2008-2009 HOD/HLT goals, which have been related to the new ADA Strategic Plan.
  • Please take the time to review these goals and become familiar with the projected work of the House for this program year.
  • You will receive an update on the progress toward achieving the goals during the Fall 2008 and Spring 2008 HOD Meetings.
  • A final summary of the accomplishments of the 2007-2008 HOD/HLT goals was distributed during the Spring HOD Meeting. In addition, this document is provided above for your use.

Association Committee/Task Force Appointments

  • Marty Yadrick and I have completed the appointment of the HOD committees, joint HOD/BOD committees and BOD committees for this program year.
  • Presently, we have 18 committees, 2 sub-committees and 4 task forces, which involve a total of 168 members from various ADA organizational units (HOD, BOD, DPGs, MIGs, affiliates, CDR and CADE).
  • The ADA Committee/Task Force Appointments for 2008-2009 is provided above for your reference.
  • Also, you can find contact information for the various committee and task force members by accessing the ADA On-Line Leadership Directory which is available at www.eatright.org/cps/rde/xchg/ada/hs.xsl/governance_leadershipdirectory_ENU_HTML.htm
  • Marty and I were excited by the large number of members interested in serving on committees. Unfortunately, there were more volunteers than slots to fill. Everyone not selected to serve at this point in time was encouraged to get involved at the district, affiliate and/or DPG level. Their names are being kept on file for appointments to committees/task forces in the future.
  • All committees are being asked to use the new Strategic Plan as a guiding document as they develop their annual program of work.
