Nominating Committee

Term

  • Nine (9) positions serve three (3) year staggered terms.

Part I: Qualifications

  • Member of the ADA in the Active classification.
  • Experience in activities and operations of the Association and participation in national activities.
  • Experience in one or more of the organization units of ADA during the past five (5) years.
  • Possesses a strong understanding of ADA, its strategic direction, areas of dietetics practice and the requirements for effective functioning in leadership positions included on the ballot.
  • Possesses strong affiliate and/or DPG contacts.
  • Registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration preferred.

Part II: Requirements

  • Members of the Nominating Committee serve a three (3) year term. The Committee selects the chair-elect who becomes chair.
  • The time commitment requirement for members of the Nominating Committee is approximately fifteen (15) days each year for meetings and travel. In addition, time is also required for teleconferences and committee work. The position of chair also requires time for correspondence, and planning meetings. Employer support in advance is encouraged.
  • Overview of Meetings
    1. Summer Orientation/Planning Meeting (one day)
    2. Nominee Interviews and Business Meeting prior to FNCE (two days)
    3. Slate Selection Meeting (three days; usually Friday, Saturday, Sunday) in Chicago
  • Overview of Conference Calls
    1. Four conference calls plus additional conference calls as needed

Part IV: Functions

  • Identify
    1. Collaborate on a regular basis with CDR, CADE, HOD and BOD in reviewing and refining position skill sets and qualifications and consider refinements.
    2. Establishes qualifications for all elected officers and officials.
    3. Interacts with membership groups to identify needs and candidates.
  • Orient
    1. Maintain active, ongoing relationships with ADA organization units (DPGs, CADE, CDR, HOD, BOD, Member Interest Groups), Affiliates and Networking Groups encouraging nominations and voting.
  • Nominate
    1. Communicates with all stakeholders within the Association to identify a diverse but representative group of nominees.
  • Select
    1. Evaluates, screens, and selects candidates for the ballot.
    2. Interviews candidates for President-Elect and others as time allows.
    3. Encourages and promotes diversity.
  • Elect
    1. Managers election process
    2. Develops, disseminates, reviews and updates campaign guidelines.
  • Encourage
    1. Influences other parts of the organization in their leadership development activities.
    2. Informs a candidate of results, requests evaluation of the process and communicates other opportunities for leadership.
  • Cultivate
    1. Collaborate on year-round basis with ADA organization units (DPGs, CADE, CDR, HOD, BOD, Member Interest Groups), Affiliates and Networking Groups in sharing leadership database information to develop leadership skills and create a pipeline of future leaders.
    2. Uses attendance at annual Leadership Institute to network as visible resources in coaching members on available pathways and opportunities to leadership positions within the organization and to identify emerging leaders.
  • Evaluate
    1. Evaluates and analyzes governance matters and make recommendations for change to the Board of Directors.
