HOD At-Large Delegates

Part I: Qualifications

  • Demonstrated leadership in professional issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to network and communicate with one's peers and colleagues.
  • Demonstrated ability to represent members' issues.
  • Registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration preferred.
  • Selected from outside of the HOD membership.

For the Dietetic Technician (DT) Delegate

  • Dietetic Technician member of the ADA in the Active classification.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities to strengthen and expand DT programs and membership.

For the Delegate 30 Years of Age and Under

  • Member of the ADA in the Active classification.
  • Age at beginning of term is 30 years or under.

For the Retired Delegate

  • Member of ADA in the Retired category.

For the At-Large Delegate (No Specific Group Designated)

  • Delegates should reflect diverse groups (ethnicity, cultural, gender).
  • Two (2) delegates should be ADA members in the Active category and up to one (1) delegate could be a public member.

Part II: Requirements

  • At-Large Delegates serve a two (2) year term.
  • Time. The at-large delegate position requires a time commitment of approximately ten (10) days each year for meetings and travel. Time is required for conference calls, correspondence, planning, writing reports, etc. Additional committee appointments could increase this time commitment. Employer support in advance is encouraged.

Part III: Recommended Skill Sets

  • Exhibits strong networking and relationship building skills.

  • Demonstrates strong and effective communication skills.
  • Respects diversity and promotes inclusiveness.
  • Motivates others.

Specific to At-Large Delegates

  • Networks and reflects the issues of the group represented.

Part IV: Functions

  • Serves as a member of the House of Delegates.
  • Participates in HOD activities to identify and prioritize trends in the profession.
  • Participates in HOD and BOD committees and task forces as assigned.
  • Performs functions, as needed, to assist in facilitating the work of the House.
  • Networks and reflects the issues of the group represented: Dietetic Technicians, 30 Years and Under Members, or Retired members
  • Serves as liaisons to other groups as requested by the Speaker.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Speaker.
  • Encourages and promotes diversity and inclusivity.
