Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) Chair-Elect
Term
- 3 year term (1 year as Chair-elect, 1 year as Chair, 1 year ex-officio).
Part I: Qualifications

Credentialed by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) and member of the ADA in the Active classification.

Master’s or higher degree.
- Demonstrated leadership in dietetics education or in dietetics practice, worked with Registered Dietitians (RD) and/or Dietetic Technicians, Registered (DTR).
- Demonstrated evidence of professional leadership including service on the CADE board. Service on the CADE board is necessary to understand the accreditation standards and higher education environment, as well as external review requirements (e.g., the Council for Higher Education Accreditation and US Department of Education).

May not serve simultaneously on other groups within ADA that may represent a conflict of interest with CADE activities (i.e., elected member of the Board of Directors or Commission on Dietetic Registration).
Part II: Requirements

The chair-elect of CADE shall serve for a one (1) year term. To achieve continuity the chair-elect of CADE works closely with the chair in learning role and responsibilities of office. At the end of the term, the chair-elect becomes chair and serves a one (1) year term. At the end of the term as chair, the chair becomes ex officio member of CADE board and CADE delegate representative to HOD for a one (1) year term.*

The position of CADE chair-elect requires a time commitment of approximately twenty-five (25) – thirty (30) days each year for meetings and travel. Additional time is required for conference calls, correspondence, planning, writing reports, etc. Depending on committee appointments and CADE's program of work, this time commitment may be greater. Employer support in advance is encouraged.

Part IV: Functions
As CADE Chair-elect
-
Performs functions of the chair if the chair is unable to perform the functions of the office of chair

Develops an operating plan for CADE in cooperation with ADA Accreditation staff for the chair-elect's term as chair

Assists the chair and represent CADE upon the chair's request

Reviews general correspondence and major program changes, as directed by the CADE chair and in accordance with accreditation policies and procedures

Participates in the preparation of the CADE budget, in cooperation with ADA Accreditation staff

Appoints CADE members to standing committees
-
Represents CADE at meetings of CHEA, USDE, and other organizations relevant to accreditation

Participates in planning the ADA annual meeting program for CADE

Represents review teams at CADE meeting when conflict of interest exists for program representatives

Sets CADE meeting dates for chair-elect's term as chair

Becomes chair of CADE at completion of term as chair-elect

Encourages and promotes diversity.

Implements and coordinates CADE’s action plans

Maintains communication within CADE and with the ADA Board of Directors and House of Delegates (HOD)

Assumes responsibility cooperatively with the ADA Accreditation staff in determining action to be taken on selected matters relating to the accreditation process. These actions are based on decisions made by members of CADE and review teams and will be in accordance with guidelines for accrediting bodies established by CHEA and the USDE.

Refers to the HOD matters of interest and pertinent information for review and action, as needed

Schedules and presides at all meetings of CADE

Serves as ex-officio member of CADE committees

Appoints CADE committees with the advice of CADE in order to carry out CADE action plans

Requests legal counsel for advice related to accreditation, appeals, and other matters as needed

Conducts orientation for new CADE members and program reviewers, prior to assuming their responsibilities with CADE, in cooperation with the Program Review/Site Visit Committee, program representatives, and ADA Accreditation staff

Becomes the CADE delegate representative to the HOD and an ex officio member of the CADE board at completion of term as chair

Encourages and promotes diversity.
