Quality Management Committee Report Spring 2008
The Quality Management Committee (QMC) is responsible to:
- Manage administrative tasks and decisions regarding ADA’s revision document — Standards of Practice (SOP) for RDs and DTRs in Nutrition Care and Standards of Professional Performance (SOPP) for RDs and DTRs;
- Complete final document: SOP for RDs and DTRs in Nutrition Care and SOPP for RDs and DTRs;
- Plan and conduct a training session for the House of Delegates Spring Meeting on the SOP for RDs and DTRs in Nutrition Care and SOPP for RDs and DTRs for member education of practice implementation;
- Approve, review and support the development of practice-specific SOP and SOPP by the Dietetic Practice Groups;
- Represent the dietetics profession and the RD/DTR credentials to national quality performance improvement organizations in setting standards and quality strategies;
- Monitor national quality measures initiatives for potential ADA member participation;
- Establish communication systems with accreditation organizations; the Joint Commission and Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program of the American Osteopathic Association;
- Participate in Joint Commission’s Long Term Care PTAC — Professional Technical and Advisory Committee and Standards Improvement Initiatives;
- Plan and conduct the Open Space session at FNCE 2008 for the Core SOP in Nutrition Care and the SOPP for the RD and DTR; Oversee the five practice specific SOP/SOPP Open Space sessions;
- Collaborate with ADA units to develop and respond to national measures;
- Collaborate with the EAL regarding the nutrition screening project;
- Respond to ADA-member quality management and practice related questions;
- Serve as the Committee to the Scope of Dietetics Practice Framework Sub-Committee.
The following represent the Committee’s key activities since October 2007.
Meetings
The Quality Management Committee met via teleconference in October, November, December 2007 and then in January, February and twice in April 2008. The Committee met in person in March 2008. The Committee also met at the HOD Spring Meeting to present their training to the Delegates.
Program of Work Accomplishments
- Published ADA Journal article and ASPEN NCP in October 2007 for the SOP and SOPP for RDs in Nutrition Support.
- Finalized definition of Supervision for the purpose of Nutrition Care.
- Completed and released draft revised SOP in nutrition care for the RD and DTR and SOPP for the RD and DTR document to House of Delegates for member input in January – February 2008 comment period.
- Initiated system for communicating with DPG Officers for review of draft revised SOP in nutrition care for the RD and DTR and SOPP for the RD and DTR in January 2008.
- Reviewed member comments and revised SOP in nutrition care for the RD and DTR and SOPP for the RD and DTR document to reflect input.
- Conducted the practice specific SOP/SOPP Summit in January 2008 bringing together the chairs of the SOP/SOPP workgroups of several nutrition practice disciplines to verify standards needs and discuss education to members.
- Submitted and received acceptance for the Open Space session at FNCE 2008 for the Core SOP in Nutrition Care and the SOPP for the RD and DTR.
- Coordinated and received acceptance with the SOP/SOPP work group chairs their practice specific SOP/SOPP Open Space FNCE 2008 sessions.
- Continued system for ADA follow-up via Committee member monitoring and reporting of national quality initiatives.
- Contributed to CDR’s update of RD and DTR testing based on the SOP/SOPP.
- Collaborated with the EAL regarding the nutrition screening project.
- Developed a needs assessment plan for via the Measures Work Group to assist with plan of instructing RDs about quality measures.
- Reviewed practice specific Journal articles for SOPP in management and SOPP in education of practitioners.
- Proposed to/accepted by the HLT for practice specific SOP/SOPP development is transitioned to the SODPF sub-committee charge.
