Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education Report
Fall 2008
Change of Senior Director at CADE
Beverly Mitchell retired as Senior Director of CADE after 23 years of service to the ADA. Ulric Chung began as the new Senior Director on August 25. Well grounded in general accreditation policy and standards, he was Assistant Executive Director of Accreditation Evaluation and Research for the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE). Prior to that, Ulric was an Assistant Professor and Visiting Assistant Research Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago’s College of Pharmacy. Ulric is an alumnus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he earned an AB in French, Master of Computer Science and PhD in Curriculum and Instruction.
Recruiting CADE Volunteer Leaders
To carry out the peer review function critical to CADE’s purpose, a large number of diverse ADA member educators and practitioners are needed to serve in a volunteer role. To recruit additional program reviewers, the CADE board is marketing the benefits of serving as a volunteer accreditation reviewer to ADA member groups. All ADA leaders are asked to identify other members who may be interested in this unique role. Information on accreditation reviewer qualifications and application process is on the CADE Web page at www.eatright.org/cade. Names and contact information may be e-mailed to CADE staff at cade@eatright.org by November 1 and they will be invited to apply for 3-year appointments in the 2009-2012 term.
The CADE board offered 3-year appointments to nineteen applicants who attended the July 19-20, 2008 training workshop. The new reviewers are Melodie J. Bell-Cavallino, Bonnie L. Berube, Elise Cowie, Christine Hartney, Janet S. Johnson, Marie Y. Kamp, Karla Kennedy-Hagan, Joyce K. Kerestes, Cindra L. Ketterman, Laurel G. Lambert, Suzanne M. Leson, Carol H. Longley, Jatun K. McKenzie, Sharon K. Schwartz, Shelia G. Triggs, Mary Verona, Doris Wang, Lorraine J. Weatherspoon, and Kay N. Wolf. CADE Ad Hoc Committees
The board has formed three Ad Hoc committees to address specific areas of interest:
- Second Round Computer Matching Committee to explore adding a second round and timeline changes to the computer matching process.
- Phase 2 Task Force Recommendations Committee to determine a plan and timeframe for addressing the Phase 2 Task Force Recommendations.
- CADE Assessment Plan Committee to oversee an assessment plan, review the data and report findings to the CADE board.
