FNCE Program Planning Advisory Committee (FNCE PPAC) Report Spring 2008
The 2008 Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo Program Planning Advisory Committee (FNCE PPAC) met November 29 to December 1 to review the 2008 FNCE dietetic practice group (DPG) and general session proposals. Due to the success of the 2007 electronic Call for Abstracts, the 2008 Call for Educational Sessions was moved to an online platform for the first time. A total of 188 proposals were submitted for educational session consideration, a 12% increase over the previous year. The FNCE PPAC selected 76 for inclusion in the final program. The FNCE PPAC co-planned an additional 6 sessions to fulfill learning need code gaps. All 29 DPGs submitted priority sessions that were accepted by the committee. Two additional member interest group (MIG) sessions were also developed. Additional educational sessions have also been prepared by various parts of the Association. These sessions include: ADA Foundation Symposium, Research Symposium, Professional Development Portfolio Introduction, Open Space, “Hot Topics”, CADE Forum and CDR Forum.
Speakers and topics have been identified for the following featured sessions at 2008 FNCE:
- The Pursuit of Happyness — Christopher Gardner (Opening Session)
- Online Personalized Health Care – Food for Health — Paul Tang, MD, MS (2008 Presidents’ Lecture)
- Systemic Nutrition - What’s YOUR Gut Reaction? — Sylvia Escott-Stump, MA, RD, LDN (The Lenna Frances Cooper Memorial Lecture)
- Putting the Zing Back in Your Fling! — Amanda Gore (Member Showcase)
- National Geographic Reports: A Global Perspective — Lisa Ling (Closing Session)
Additionally, six pre-FNCE workshops and 4 FNCE excursions are being planned for the 2008 FNCE. Program details can be found at www.eatright.org/fnce08.
The 2008 FNCE Call for Abstracts was once again available online for both submission and review. The FNCE PPAC, designated reviewers and Research Committee worked collaboratively on reviewing the submissions. A total of 552 abstracts were received, a 24% increase over the previous year; reviewers are currently working on final selection.
The 2008 FNCE will continue to feature paperless educational sessions. Attendees will be able to access a wealth of session information, review educational session handouts prior to the conference and select those sessions that best meet their professional development plan. Speakers also will have the flexibility to offer additional resources previously not printed in the handout book due to space restrictions. For additional information, visit www.eatright.org/fnce08.
