Issue Impacting the Profession

I am most passionate about promoting the sports dietitian through excellence in practice, education and mentoring to increase their recognition as the expert resource. I have been a leader in developing networking opportunities for the collegiate sports dietitians through the Collegiate Sports Dietitians List Serve and through partnering with the NCAA to develop educational and resource opportunities that promote the RD/CSSD. In addition, I am an active member of the CSSD certification exam development committee.


How have you promoted ADA's mission/vision/values?

I have promoted the ADA mission, vision and values through my continued dedication to self and client education, student and colleague mentoring and striving for the highest level of practice within the field of sports nutrition. I have worked to create and promote the CSSD certification for our profession and as a vehicle to educate others of the fact that the Sports Dietitian needs to be an active member of all sports medicine teams.

 

In assessing your skills, which ones do you think best prepare you to be an ADA leader and why?

The skills that have best prepared me for a leadership role within ADA are both professional and personal: I have been a practicing sports nutritionist for over 15 years, I have been very involved in efforts to create and promote the CSSD certification exam. I have worked to develop and promote networking opportunities for sports nutritionist, as well as mentoring of students and dietitians interested in sports nutrition. I have been committed for the last 10+ years to promoting the RD and optimizing my role and that of other sports dietitians within the collegiate arena. I have confidence in my ability to be a contributing member through my strong communication skills.
