Issue Impacting the Profession

Health Care in America is in the forefront of the political debates that will help to determined who our next president will be. I am passionate seeing that health care remains a major issue and that every American has access to affordable health care. As a country we cannot continue to be a world leader if our population is not healthy. I have visited many foreign countries where there is universal health care, and there are not the problems in those countries that we have here.

How have you promoted ADA's mission/vision/values?

I have always been concerned about the image of dietitians as a member of the health care profession and have worked diligently to improve our professional credibility and to gain the recognition that we truly deserve.

In assessing your skills, which ones do you think best prepare you to be an ADA leader and why?

During my entire career I have been in a leadership position of having to make decisions, solve problems, and implement programs that meet the needs of targeted populations. I have spent an enormous amount of time doing logistical planning, fund-raising when necessary, and networking and partnering with other groups in order to assure that our goals were met. This is why I feel that my 50 years of experience will be of value to ADA.
