Issue Impacting the Profession

There are multiple issues that affect the profession depending on the political and economic climate; currently, issues include food sustainability, disparities in health care access, health literacy, food safety, childhood obesity and issues related to public policy and industry food standards. Dietitians can influence these issues at all levels. I have taken action at the grassroots level by providing mentorship to new dietitians, by working with industry and staying aware and active in our association.

How have you promoted ADA's mission/vision/values?

As a nutrition communications consultant I am charged with helping others understand the role of an RD, influence of the ADA and value of dietitians. It is because of my conviction that dietitians are the most valued source of food and nutrition services, and dedication to the association leading the future of dietetics, that I continue to build and support my case to others.

In assessing your skills, which ones do you think best prepare you to be an ADA leader and why?

My work requires creativity, strategic thinking, teamwork and an organized execution of tasks. I feel that these are valuable skills as the association approaches the next four years of the strategic plan. I remain focused on the common goal, prioritize issues and can add (often needed) humor to a situation. Lastly, my record shows that I am a tireless worker that remains dedicated to my commitments from career to triathlon, friendships and the Association.
