Coordinator & Consultant, Patient First Program Morrison Management Specialists Atlanta, Georgia |
Leadership is a major issue in dietetics. Teachers/mentors must communicate effectively to lead students to develop critical thinking and future leaders of the profession. Many of my students are in leadership roles today and their contributions inspire me. In business, as well-educated professionals, we have an obligation to use our skills to lead and not over-complicate issues. My goal business has been to establish the "image" of dietitians as multi-skilled and flexible professionals.
How have you promoted ADA's mission/vision/values?
ADA is best represented when members make vital contributions to the professional work environment, showing ability to think beyond dietetics. I have demonstrated that dietitians bring value throughout the workplace by inspiring students, developing new ideas and passionately supporting the organization's mission. Again, my work with students at Barnes in St. Louis, New York State Internship and Russell Sage College is a testimony to my enthusiastic commitment to a future of dietitians leading the way.
In assessing your skills, which ones do you think best prepare you to be an ADA leader and why?
My enthusiasm and passion for dietetics, teaching, food systems management and getting results through teamwork enhances my communication skills. I have demonstrated negotiation and compromise, while never sacrificing the real objectives of the task. My ability to think strategically has been recognized by ADA and by my current employer. Interestingly, while serving on the Future Education/Practice Task Force, I served on a Task Force within Morrison to redesign future patient food service.
