Issue Impacting the Profession

I want the dietetics profession to be the viewed as the leader in food and nutrition services. We must use evidence-based practice, be indispensable to our organizations, be active in public policy and regulatory, have the data to show that we provide the highest quality care and service and train for future practice roles. We must think and act strategically to ensure that the vision we have today will become our reality tomorrow.

How have you promoted ADA's mission/vision/values?

I have promoted the mission, vision and values of ADA in all areas of my practice and volunteer activities. I have the opportunity every year to actively promote ADA's mission/vision/values to dietetic interns. If our future practitioners are excited about our association, they will be active members and leaders in ADA, and the Association will be in good hands.

In assessing your skills, which ones do you think best prepare you to be an ADA leader and why?

Through career and volunteer paths, I believe that I have developed leadership skills in strategic thinking, organizational management, motivating others, budgeting and financial oversight, managing change, and effective meeting management. I have successfully chaired district, affiliate and a dietetic practice group which provided me many growth opportunities in these areas. As Speaker of the House of Delegates, I had the pleasure to work in partnership with the ADA staff and fully embrace strategic based governance.
