Issues Management Committee (IMC) Report Fall 2006

The role of the Issues Management Committee is to provide education, direction and oversight to the Issues Management Process adopted by the House of Delegates in Spring 2001. The Committee is composed of the Speaker-elect and four other ADA members. The following is an update of Committee activities since June 1, 2006.

  • Since its inception, the Issues Management Committee has received over 710 issues. The submission of issues continues to grow each year (Figure 1).

  • The Committee has met three times via conference call during the 2006-07 Program Year: July 13, 2006; August 17, 2006; and October 23, 2006.
  • Since June 1, 2005, the Committee has received 71 issues.  Fifty-two of these issues have been addressed. The remaining 19 are being discussed by the Committee.

  • The response rate to the Satisfaction Survey for this last quarter (June through August 2006) was only 25%, at this time last year, the response rate was 40%. The response rate to the satisfaction survey has steadily declined. The Committee instituted an on-line satisfaction survey in hopes of improving the response rate; however, the response rate for the past quarter was the lowest ever.
  • The Committee has added tracking of satisfaction with response as well as process. Satisfaction continues to be high with both process and response. Since June 1, 2006, the overall satisfaction of those responding to the survey are as follows:
    • Satisfaction with Process: Not Satisfied (0%), Satisfied (20%), Very Satisfied (80%)
    • Satisfaction with Response: Not Satisfied Changed to Satisfied (11%); Satisfied (11%); Very Satisfied (78%)
  • The ADA Web site continues to be top means that members become aware of the Issues Management Process.
  • One hundred and thirty-six (136) issues have been submitted via the on-line Web form since its inception in February 2005. 
  • The advertisement available to delegates in the Member Issues Toolkit has been published in at least three DPG newsletters.
  • The Issues Management Committee has brought forth one issue to the House Leadership Team for Mega Issue consideration.
  • “Tell Us Your Issues” forms were available during FNCE 2006 at: the HOD meeting, the Affiliate Informational Meeting, the Practice DPG Chair/Chair-elect/PID Session and at the Member Service Center booth.  Sixteen (16) issues were submitted during FNCE and the HOD Meeting.
  • An Issues Management Process presentation with the objective that attendees would be updated on the process and current actions of the Committee was presented at the Fall 2006 HOD Meeting. The audience rated the presentation at 4.3 on a scale of 1 to 5 for meeting the objective.
