Join us in touring the Denver Urban Garden (DUG) Program — learn how this innovative non-profit is creating community food security one garden at a time. Community gardens are viewed as a potentially useful environmental change strategy to promote active and healthy lifestyles. Denver Urban Gardens strives to grow community one urban garden at a time. DUG’s LiveWell Initiative consists of a series of garden-based strategies designed to promote healthy lifestyles in the Baker, La Alma/Lincoln Park, and Sun Valley neighborhoods, three diverse, lower income neighborhoods with high need populations. The initiative addresses the socio-economic barriers to accessing healthy, affordable food and receiving nutrition and gardening education. We will visit three of the gardens involved in this program. For more information about DUG visit the Web site (linked below). Tour attendees are invited to attend the HEN Leadership lunch following the tour (at noon) at the Starz Film Center, Denver Film Society. (Lunch is included in registration fee.) An additional one CEU session following lunch at the beginning of HEN's executive leadership meeting will be open to tour attendees at no additional cost to help us learn about the links between sustainable food systems and hunger.
Registration is currently closed. If you have any questions about the workshop, please contact Kelly Horton at Kelly.horton@connectnutrition.com or 206/818-3022. You may also contact henfnce2009@connectnutrition.com.
