Nutrition Entrepreneurs (NE) DPG. "Experts in the Business of Nutrition.” Members include a diverse group of dietitians with entrepreneurial interests, such as starting a private practice, writing books and/or finding a business niche.

Members of the Nutrition Entrepreneurs (NE) dietetic practice group have their own nutrition counseling practices, write books, design nutrition products, work in the media and are involved in many innovative and creative nontraditional dietetic careers including interactive nutrition communications and virtual nutrition therapy. "NE members share their expertise in private practice and other areas with those wanting to start their own business and those who are well established," says Past Chair Nancy Collins, PhD, RD, LD/N. In keeping with this philosophy, NE has numerous specialty groups: Corporate Health, Private Practice, Authors, Speakers, Internet and Business Technology, and Coaches. Each of these groups offers great opportunities for networking and sharing.

Additional services offered by NE to support the entrepreneur include:

  • Advertising on NE's web site, www.nedpg.org/, to promote the entrepreneurs' products and services.
  • Mini NE meetings around the country to provide the opportunity for entrepreneurs to network, obtain advice and socialize with NE colleagues.
  • Quarterly teleconferences on business related topics available to all members.
  • National conferences every three years.
  • Electronic mailing list where members can exchange information, ideas and opinions.
  • Mentoring program.
  • Networking breakfast at the ADA’s Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo (FNCE).
  • Outstanding Nutrition Entrepreneur Award.

Specialty Groups — Communicating through newsletter articles, electronic mailing lists, conference calls, and an annual meeting at FNCE

  • Corporate Health: Provides support and networking to NE members with a focus or interest in providing wellness and MNT directly to employees with services reimbursed by corporate endorsement.
    Internet and Business Technology: Assists NE members with an interest in increasing their presence on the Internet. This might include using the web to generate business to improve client communication or involvement in commercial web sites to improve the quality and accuracy of information communicated.
  • Private Practice: Provides NE members with support and networking for those interested or already practicing as nutrition therapists.
  • Authors: Shares information and provides guidance to their peers and aspiring authors. Through e-mail communication, authors have easy access to mentors who can help them write and promote their books and enhance their writing careers.
  • Speakers: Shares their experiences and helps members improve their speaking and marketing skills.
    Coaches: Provides a forum for NE members to remain state of the art in the issues relevant to the RD as Coach.

Ventures, NE’s quarterly publication: Each themed issue provides practical and unique information for nutrition entrepreneurs about business issues including coaching, financial planning, media and business plans. Back issues are available for $10 each.
