The Diabetes Care and Education (DCE) Dietetic Practice Group promotes quality diabetes care and education for people with diabetes and their families and for those at risk for developing diabetes. DCE provides an environment for professional growth to members, promotes clinical and educational research, takes a proactive position on nutrition and diabetes legislative and public policy issues and responds to the needs of collaborative diabetes organizations and industry. Members practice in a variety of settings including clinical settings, education, private practice, public health, managed care organizations, industry and research. They also are active at the local, regional and national levels in diabetes organizations. DCE developed Nutrition Practice Guidelines for type 1, type 2 and gestational diabetes and continues to develop nutrition/diabetes publications for professionals and people with diabetes. Benefits include:
- Two newsletters, Newsflash and On the Cutting Edge, each published three times per year. On the Cutting Edge includes peer-reviewed articles and pre-approved continuing education credits.
- DCE publications including reproducible educational slicks such as the Eat, Move, Live Nutrition.

- On the Cutting Edge (OTCE) is a peer-reviewed newsletter published three times a year, which provides self-assessment questionnaires and continuing education credits.
- Newsflash, is produced three times annually, and includes featured columns, clinical updates, reviews on books, current research, educational tools and Web sites.

Networking, Business Meetings, Continuing Professional Education Events, Receptions
- A Leadership Retreat is held annually to network and orient new leaders.
- DCE sponsors educational sessions, skill building workshops and a reception at ADA's Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo and provides presentations at the American Overseas Dietetic Association Meeting and other national and international meetings. Additionally, DCE hosts a member reception at the American Association of Diabetes Educators Meeting.

In addition, DCE is involved in these areas:
- Electronic Communication Committee: Established to enhance DCE technology and distribution of nutrition information to a wider audience. The DCE Web site has newsletter articles and abstracts on-line On The Cutting Edge CPE, links to other diabetes and nutrition-related sites, a message board, recipe of the month and downloadable, reproducible educational slicks. The DCE member electronic mailing list is a well-used communications link, with over 800 users and growing; www.dce.org/. The DCE Web site gets over 11,,800 visits per month.
- International Affairs: Representation and presentation at the American Overseas Dietetic Association (AODA) annual meeting. DCE also presented at the International Congress of Dietetics, May 2004, in Chicago, Illinois. DCE sponsored a speaker for the March 2007 University of the West Indies Diabetes Outreach Program in Ochos Rios, Jamaica.
- Legislative Activity: DCE continues advocacy work with ADA and other national professional groups to improve reimbursement for diabetes self-management education and medical nutrition therapy.
- Mentor Network: This network links experienced diabetes nutrition professionals with DCE members who are seeking guidance in specific areas of practice. It also links members who wish to become involved in DCE activities with volunteer opportunities that may be of interest to them.
- Publications: Development of publications including reproducible patient education slicks. As they become available the slicks are mailed to members and are posted to the DCE Web site where they can be downloaded for use.
- Member Survey: Over 25% of the entire DCE membership completed the online member survey in September 2005, and the results are being used to plan DCE activities to meet member needs, as well as reach out to DCE members ready to become more involved in DCE activities.
