"The practice of oncology nutrition covers research, prevention, treatment, recovery, palliative care and hospice. The Oncology Nutrition dietetic practice group provides dietetic professionals with resources and networking opportunities to deal with the complexities of oncology practice," reports Chair, Laura Elliott, MPH, RD, LD. Members work in clinical, public health, education and research settings. The group promotes quality oncology nutrition practice in cancer treatment, prevention, survivorship and education.

ON DPG is a technical resource for its members and for allied organizations such as the American Cancer Society, The Oncology Nursing Society and the National Cancer Institute. Members participated in the development of the following publications for the American Cancer Society: a comprehensive nutrition section for the Cancer Information Database, a nutrition module for the I Can Cope series, and a nutrition document for cancer survivors. Members updated the nutrition information for the NCI PDQ database. The Oncology Nutrition DPG is in the process of developing specialty certification.

Newsletter Name and Unique Features

Oncology Nutrition Connection (formerly called ON-LINE) is the quarterly publication for ON DPG, is a peer reviewed publication (ISSN 1087-4364). Each issue features articles that highlight a specific disease or area of practice in oncology or related interest areas. It also features information on upcoming meetings and articles on complementary care, hospice, prevention, and pediatrics. Subscriptions are available to organizations and individuals who are ineligible for ADA membership for $35.00, payable to ADA/ON DPG. Back issues from previous years are also available for $5.00 for ON DPG members and $10.00 for non-members.

  • Clinical Guide to Oncology Nutrition, 2nd ed. — A comprehensive guide to nutrition care of cancer patients from prevention through hospice care.
