Nutrition professionals who plan and evaluate food and nutrition programs, develop food and nutrition policies, plan, implement and evaluate health promotion and disease prevention programs and provide nutrition services to all age groups in a community setting.

The Public Health/Community Nutrition Practice Group (PHCNPG) is a dynamic group of almost 1,500 members who are involved in program planning and evaluation, education, direct care and consultation services, policy and research in the United States and abroad. Members work in partnership with other health professionals and stakeholders to serve the public through the promotion of optimal nutrition, health, and well-being. PHCNPG members work in a variety of roles and settings, such as:
- Providing population-based education/services at the national, state, and local levels
- Participating in direct care in schools, WIC, community-based clinics, and primary care settings
- Serving as consultants to Head Start programs, child care centers, schools, school-based clinics, home health programs, nursing homes and other health care programs and facilities
- Teaching in colleges and universities
- Conducting research in academic and public health/community settings
- Engaging in program planning, development, implementation, and evaluation at the federal/state level
The dietetic practice group has been involved in formulating nutrition criteria for women's health, influencing legislation and public policy, setting standards for care and professional practice and developing projects that promote public health nutrition. It also publishes a quarterly newsletter, The Digest, that features timely topics and highlights members' professional initiatives. Members can network through geographical area coordinators.

Enhancement and Promotion of ADA's Strategic Initiatives and Campaigns
PHCNPG members take active leadership roles in food and nutrition efforts. Many of the above-mentioned publications, services and events support ADA's strategic goals including building an aligned, engaged, diverse membership, increasing demand for and utilization of services, empowering members to compete successfully in a rapidly changing environment and impacting the agenda for research. PHCNPG offers many opportunities including networking receptions, a membership booth, hot topic education sessions, awards, scholarships, a quarterly newsletter, and a brochure to promote membership and networking.
Policy initiatives of ADA and its key audiences are influenced by active participation in national nutrition issues.
