Translating Vision into Reality — 2008 Accreditation Standards

Designed for dietetics education program faculty, this workshop focuses on the policies, procedures and standards used by education programs to meet requirements for accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE). In preparation for the workshop participants must complete Web-based modules with a sample self-study based on the 2008 CADE Eligibility Requirements and Accreditation Standards. Registration will be limited to 80.

This workshop will teach you how to create and communicate healthy-eating messages that consumers and reporters want to hear; translate nutrition science into everyday advice that consumers can easily understand; approach the media and others with confidence and professionalism; and position yourself as your community’s leading food and nutrition expert.

Eating Disorders: The Ups and Downs of Nutritional Treatment

Whatever your experience, this workshop will equip attendees to implement successfully nutritional therapy approaches with individuals across the spectrum of eating disorders.

Informatics is here and incorporating nutrition into electronic medical records (EMR) is the challenge facing dietetics practitioners in clinical settings. The Nutrition Care Process/ Standardized Language and Evidence-based Nutrition Practice Guidelines will be outlined as to their function in the EMR. A panel of ADA members who have used EMRs will provide insight into their experiences, including barriers and solutions to implementation.

Hear ADA’s legal counsel and three experienced expert witnesses who consult and testify in medical or healthcare cases with nutrition implications. Learn what expert witnesses do, why they're important, what skills are required, and how one might become an expert witness. You will also have a chance to role play to see what it's like to testify under pressure.
The Sodium Spectrum: Updates and Implications of a Nutritional Double-edged Sword

Sodium adds flavor, texture and shelf life to many foods but most Americans consume more than is recommended for optimum health. Three leading experts will share their findings on how sodium affects patients with cardiovascular disease, congestive heart failure and hypertension, as well as the role of dietary sodium as an electrolyte and its impact on hydration and fluid consumption. The implications of sodium loss during exercise and its role in muscle cramping and human performance will also be discussed.
