    Using a case study format, recognize the female athlete triad in the context of collegiate sports, apply a multidisciplinary approach to treatment and address body composition changes for male athletes. Evaluate approaches taken to change body composition within the college athlete while maintaining proper fuel for practices and competitions. Examine the role of the sports dietitian as an integral member of a multidisciplinary team approach in the care of collegiate athletes.

    Nutritional Challenges of Absorption in Gastrointestinal Surgical Patients

    Evaluate the potentially significant alterations in absorptive function as a result from gastrointestinal (GI) surgery. Assess both the precipitating factors in relationship to removal and/or alteration of a particular segment of the GI tract, as well as the indirect physiologic effects of that removal. Using didactic and case study format, review the diagnostic tools, treatment and monitoring of malabsorptive consequences secondary to select GI surgical interventions.

    Research Symposium (Part 1): Snapshots of ADA/ADAF Research

    This session will highlight the preliminary findings from the Enhanced Nutrition Component of the CARLE Medicare Demonstration project where the program was expanded to include an RD at the population disease management level and provide MNT for medical conditions not currently covered by Medicare. Preliminary results from the BCSBS NC Research project evaluating impact of MNT for obesity will be provided, as well an update on other ADA/ADAF research projects, including the NIH-funded BMI2 project focusing on using motivational interviewing as a pediatric overweight prevention intervention, clinical productivity and staffing research, and useablity testing for nutrition diagnoses and EBP toolkits.

Navigate the first release of the analytically-based Dietary Supplement Ingredient Database (DSID-1) for assessing total nutrient intake in the US population and discuss implications for practice.
