Systems Engineer, Information Technology
The American Dietetic Association, the nation’s largest organization of food and nutrition professionals, has a challenging position for a Systems Engineer, who will ensure the stability, integrity and efficient operation of ADA’s in-house information systems that support core organizational functions. This is achieved by monitoring, maintaining, supporting and optimizing all networked operating systems. The Systems Engineer will apply proven communication, analytical and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate and resolve issues in order to maximize the benefit of IT systems.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with IT team to ensure smooth and reliable operation of systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes
- Design and deploy new solutions and enhancements to existing applications, software and operating systems
- Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers and contractors for the acquisition of system-related products and services
- Gauge the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems; develop and implement strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems
- Design and deploy LANs, WANs and wireless networks, including servers, routers, hubs, switches, UPS and other hardware
- Install, configure and maintain computer and network operating systems and application software, providing on-call support as required
- Propose and create system design models, specifications, diagrams and charts to provide over IT infrastructure direction
- Design and perform server and security audits, system backup procedures,and other recovery processes in accordance with the company’s disaster recovery and business continuity strategies
- Integrate servers, including database, e-mail, printers, telephony equipment and backup servers and their associated software into enterprise systems
- Ensure system connectivity of all servers, shared software, groupware and other applications
- Create and maintain documentation as it relates to system configuration, mapping, processes and service records
- Ensure compatibility and interoperability of in-house computing systems
- Coordinate and perform in-depth tests for modified and new systems
- Monitor and test system performance, troubleshooting problems areas as needed
- Prepare and deliver system performance statistics and reports
- Provide guidance for team members
- Provide orientation and training to end users for all network systems
- Maintain a broad knowledge of current and emerging network systems technologies, architectures and products
- Formal Education and Certification
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or other equivalent analytical or technical disciplines is preferred
- Four years related work experience with 1+ years of experience in a Help Desk role
- Professional designation/certification preferred — at least one or more of the following certifications or equivalent: A+, MCSE, CCIE
- Knowledge and Experience
- Proven experience in overseeing the design, development and implementation of software systems, applications and related products
- Possess strong hardware, Microsoft product technical knowledge relating to a Windows server environment
- Proven experience with systems planning, security principles and general software management best practices
- Excellent troubleshooting experience
- Working knowledge of network and PC operating systems
- Competence with testing, flowchart and data mapping tools and procedures
- Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws
- Background/experience in IP Telephony a plus
- Knowledge in one or more of the following areas of specialization: VPN, Security, QoS, Multi-Service (Voice and Video), WAN, Wireless
- Good knowledge of how to configure and support a SAN environment
- Experience testing and troubleshooting networks with any of the following: protocol analyzers, bit error rate testers, traffic generators and network packet sniffers
- Working knowledge of VM Ware, Citrix
- Strong TCP/IP background and the following networking protocols: TFTP, DHCP, DNS, MPLS, VPN
