NEW — CADE Approves 2008 Accreditation Standards

The Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education completed a comprehensive review of its standards for education programs preparing graduates to become Registered Dietitians or Dietetic Technicians, Registered. The review occurred 2005 through 2007. The CADE board received the report from the Accreditation Standards Committee and approved the 2008 ERAS as proposed at its January 2008 meeting. To be accredited by CADE, dietetic education programs must meet the ERAS in effect at the time the program is reviewed.  While retaining the flexibility of multiple program models, the new ERAS are more rigorous to ensure quality education for entry to RD and DTR practice today and into the future. (You will find links to the ASC final report and the 2008 ERAS below.)

Implementation Timeline
The 2008 ERAS may be used by programs on a voluntary basis from March 2008 through February 2009. The 2008 ERAS will be required for all program documents submitted on and after March 1, 2009. Programs scheduled for review for initial and continued accreditation from March 1, 2009 through February 2010, will be given one year to meet the Criteria requiring full-time employment of the program director and directing only one program. However, all components of the ERAS wll be required for all program applications submitted on and after March 1, 2010.
