How Content Is Developed
Topics on Eatright.org are selected for relevance to the health and wellness of the general public and content decisions are based on the editors’ judgment of potential interest to visitors, timeliness of the topic and quality of research and writing. Content is developed solely by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and adheres to the positions of the Academy.
Conflict of Interest
Eatright.org content is science-based and is not influenced by private or industry sponsors, advertisers, donors, partners or collaborators. As such, Eatright.org content contributors are required to disclose any relationships that may present a potential conflict of interest or perception of conflict of interest. All published material on Academy websites adheres to the principles of the Code of Ethics for the Profession of Dietetics, from which the following principles apply to writers and reviewers who hold credentials from the Commission on Dietetic Registration:
- Principle #1: The dietetics practitioner practices dietetics based on scientific principles and current information.
- Principle #3: The dietetics practitioner presents substantiated information and interprets controversial information without personal bias, recognizing that legitimate differences of opinion exist.
- Principle #6: The dietetics practitioner provides sufficient information to enable clients and others to make their own informed decisions.
- Principle #12: The dietetics practitioner is alert to situations that might cause a conflict of interest or have the appearance of a conflict. The dietetics practitioner provides full disclosure when a real or potential conflict of interest arises.
The following incidents are violations of our ethical guidelines: if a writer or reviewer has relevant financial or professional interests in a subject covered that could suggest the appearance of a conflict of interest as determined by the editors; if a writer or reviewer intentionally misinterprets data to benefit one party; if a writer or reviewer otherwise falsifies data or plagiarizes content.
Eatright.org strives to present accurate, science-based information that is relevant to its audience. All nutrition information and public education content is reviewed by subject experts including registered dietitian nutritionists.
Content is updated when pertinent new research emerges that may affect information presented on Eatright.org. Additionally, all content is reviewed on an annual basis to make sure it is up to date and accurate. The date on which a piece of content was last reviewed is displayed at the end of an article or page.
The Eatright.org editorial staff welcomes and reviews feedback from readers. While all feedback is considered by the editorial staff and our practice reviewers, we may not respond to each communication received.
