Celiac Disease
Celiac disease is an autoimmune disease caused by sensitivity to protein (gluten) found in wheat, barley and rye. If these grains are consumed by a person with celiac disease, an immune response is triggered and damage is caused to the lining small intestine.
Though celiac disease cannot be cured, the condition can be managed. The only treatment for celiac disease is to eat a gluten-free diet, but managing it also involves making sure you get all the vitamins and nutrients you need.
