Tip of the Day
National Women's Checkup Day
Today is National Women's Checkup Day, making it a great opportunity to remind us why maintaining a healthy weight is so important for women.
Women need the same nutrients as men, perhaps more of some, depending on their age. Yet, if physically smaller, they likely need fewer calories to deliver those same nutrients.
For young adult women and women in their child-bearing years, maintaining a healthy weight lowers your risk for:
- High blood cholesterol levels
- Type 2 diabetes
- High blood pressure
- Arthritis risk later in life
Some evidence suggests that maintaining a healthy weight helps with easier breast cancer detection. In addition, healthy weight promotes fertility and helps reduce the risk for gallbladder disease.
If you're a woman looking for more information on maintaining a healthy weight, consult a registered dietitian nutritionist in your area and visit our Women's Health section.
