Tip of the Day
This weekend we celebrate Mother's Day, and mothers and grandmothers everywhere are looking forward to receiving beautiful bouquets of flowers. This Mother's Day, surprise mom with one bouquet for the vase and another for her plate!
Edible flowers—such as sweet lilac, spicy nasturtium and minty bee balm—add a distinctive flavor and a unique splash of color to your food. Grow your own or buy them in the produce department labeled "edible flowers." You can also enjoy the blossoms of any herb plant, such as basil, chive, lavender, oregano, sage and thyme blossoms.
Be very careful though, because you can't eat just any flower. Only eat flowers if you're absolutely sure of their safety.
For more information on edible flowers, consult a registered dietitian nutritionist in your area and visit our Healthy Salads page.
