Tip of the Day
National Pecan Month
April is National Pecan Month, and the many health benefits of nuts, including pecans, are reason to celebrate.
Tree nuts, like pecans, are plant-based proteins that contain fiber and a combination of vitamins and minerals from each variety. They have cholesterol-lowering properties and are rich in heart-healthy mono- and poly-unsaturated fats.
Pecans' sweet, mellow flavor and meaty texture lend well to a variety of dishes, including salads, as a coating for fish and in sweets like pralines and pecan pie. Pecans are high in calories, but by adding just a few to your morning cereal or yogurt, or in your lunchtime salad, you can add flavor and reap the health benefits without hurting your waistline.
