Tip of the Day
Don't Shed Tears Over Onions
Does cutting onions put you in tears? People cry when cutting onion because onions release gases that irritate your eyes. There are four ways to keep from crying when cutting an onion:
- Keep the cut side of the onion down on the cutting board to decrease the gases that are near your eyes.
- Open a window to let out some of the gases.
- Wear protective goggles.
- Light an unscented votive candle near the cutting board to help evaporate the gases.
