Tip of the Day
Kids in the Kitchen
Kids love helping in the kitchen and shopping, so preparing and cooking meals often encourages children to try new food. Learning about choosing and preparing healthy foods is a skill that will benefit their health throughout life, so begin today with these age-appropriate activities:
At 2 years, they can:
- Clean off the table
- Help put away groceries
- Throw things in the garbage
- Rinse fruits and vegetables
- Snap the ends off asparagus
At 3 years, they can:
- Add ingredients
- Mash potatoes
- Squeeze lemons and limes
- Stir batter
At 4 years, they can:
- Set the table
- Peel bananas
- Crack eggs
- Help measure dry ingredients
At 5 years, they can:
- Measure liquids
- Whisk eggs
- Cut soft fruits with a dull knife
Remember, kids are never too young to learn about proper food safety and hand washing practices, too!
