Tip of the Day
What Is Prediabetes?
You've heard of type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, and even gestational diabetes, but another class of diabetes is called prediabetes.
Prediabetes is when a person's blood glucose levels are higher than normal but not high enough for a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes. Most people with type 2 diabetes had prediabetes first. Prediabetes is very serious, as your heart and circulatory system can be damaged even in these early stages.
The good news is there are things you can do to turn this around and prevent the onset of type 2 diabetes. With healthful eating, regular moderate exercise and maintaining a healthy weight, your risk of developing type 2 diabetes drops.
For more information about prediabetes and lowering your risk, consult a registered dietitian in your area or visit our Disease Management and Prevention page.
