Tip of the Day
Walk to School Day
According the USDA, children between the ages of 6 and 17 should engage in 60 minutes or more of physical activity each day, yet more and more kids are less and less active. Walk to School Day is the perfect opportunity to change that and get your kids on the move.
Stop being the family chauffeur and encourage your children to walk to and from school, if possible. If your child is too young to walk without an adult, get out there and walk together! Consider starting a "walkpool" instead of a carpool, where neighborhood parents switch off walking with the children to school. This creates an opportunity for kids to be outdoors, provides a guaranteed amount of physical activity every day, and is the perfect time to get to know friends and neighbors.
