Tip of the Day
Take Advantage of an Old Fruit
Did you know that kiwifruit is more than 700 years old and was first discovered in China? Kiwi has a sweet-tart flavor and some say it tastes like a pineapple, while others think it favors a strawberry. This fruit can be found in your local supermarket all year long, and is an excellent source of vitamin C and a good source of fiber.
When buying kiwi, look for firm ones. They'll ripen at room temperature for three to five days. Ripe kiwi have a pleasant smell and are plump and slightly soft to the touch. Avoid kiwi with wrinkles, bruises or soft spots. Try kiwi with your morning breakfast or on top of a whole-wheat muffin or oatmeal. Kiwi also mixes well with other fruit for a fruit salad.
