Finding Foods High in Fiber

Ever wonder if soybeans or tofu are good fiber sources? While half a cup of soybeans has more than 5 grams of fiber, a half cup of tofu contains less than 1 gram of fiber. This happens because soybeans are processed to make tofu, and the fibrous substances are strained out.

Looking for ways to boost your dietary fiber intake? Consider adding these foods:

  • Beans
  • Whole-wheat products
  • Oats and corn bran
  • Nuts and seeds
  • Fruits and vegetables

If possible, try eating the skin of fruits and root vegetables for added nutrients and fiber content.

For more information on fiber sources, consult a registered dietitian in your area and visit our Fiber Resources section.
