Tip of the Day
Ever wondered what textured soy protein (TSP) or tempeh is? If you are thinking of going meatless a few days a week or a adopting a vegetarian lifestyle, TSP and tempeh are both high-fiber and high-protein options to consider adding to your dishes.
Textured Soy Protein
A meat substitute made from soy flour and often sold as granules, flakes or chunks, and either flavored or unflavored. It can also be used to boost the protein in some baked goods, casseroles and other mixed dishes. Try veggie burgers or sausages made with TSP.
Made from cooked, slightly fermented soybeans and perhaps grains, spices or herbs, Tempeh has a firm texture and a nutty flavor. Easy to slice or cube, tempeh tastes great added to stir fries, soups or casseroles.
