Tip of the Day
Leave Salt Out of It!
A sprinkle here, a little shake there.… While our bodies require sodium, most Americans eat too much. The 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend lowering your sodium intake. Cooking meals in your own kitchen is a great way to control the amount of salt in your foods.
Instead of seasoning with salt, experiment creating rubs with your own favorite blend of herbs and spices. Here are some options, but feel free to get creative.
- Grated lemon, orange, and/or lime peel with minced garlic and cracked pepper
- Garlic powder, cracked black pepper and cayenne pepper
- Fresh or dried oregano, basil and rosemary with minced Italian parsley and garlic
- Fresh or dried marjoram, thyme and basil.
