Are You Consuming Too Much Caffeine?

About four-fifths of the world's population drinks coffee daily, but how much is too much? Overconsumption of caffeine can cause anxiety, nervousness and digestive problems.

For most people, 200 to 300 micrograms of caffeine per day (two to three cups of coffee) won't cause negative effects.

If you feel you are consuming too much caffeine and are experiencing health problems, try these ideas to cut back your consumption:

  • Mix half regular and decaf coffee.
  • Drink decaffeinated coffee or herbal teas.
  • Eliminate sodas, cocoa and some cold medicines (check ingredient labels) that are high in caffeine.

The key to caffeine is to avoid over-doing it. For other healthy alternatives, consult a registered dietitian in your area.
