Tip of the Day

Prepare in Advance for a Stress-Free Tax Day

For many of us, Tax Day brings a great deal of stress. Stressful situations can lead to unhealthy eating, as well as overeating. Do you and your family a favor and plan meals ahead of time to make Tax Day a stress-free day.

  • Make a double or triple batch when you have time to cook and store leftovers in freezer for later meals. Freeze leftovers in individual meal containers for quick thawing.
  • Cook on weekends to save food prep time during the week.
  • Stock up on quick-to-fix foods like whole-grain pasta, rice or frozen and canned vegetables.
  • Buy prepared foods like pre-cut stir-fry vegetables, grated cheese, skinless chicken strips or pre-washed salad greens.

To unwind from tax day stress, take a walk after dinner with your family. For other healthful ideas, consult a registered dietitian in your area and visit our Eat Right Nutrition Tips section.
