Tip of the Day
Don't Rule Out the Turnip
No matter which way you put it, turnips rarely sound appealing. This might be due to the fact that many people do not know how to prepare them.
Turnips are available year round with a peak in the fall and winter months. Select smooth surfaced roots that are firm and heavy with some root hairs at the bottom. Usually smaller turnips have a sweeter taste.
This root vegetable, a good source of vitamin C, can be eaten raw, sliced, diced or julienned. Cook turnips until tender, and avoid overcooking as sweetness will diminish.
