Stop Eating When You Are Satisfied
While many health experts recommend that you stop eating when we are full, it takes about 20 minutes for your brain to realize your body is not hungry anymore. If you stop eating when you are satisfied, you will avoid overeating and the uncomfortable feeling of being too stuffed.
For the last weeks of National Nutrition Month, "Get Your Plate in Shape" and take a closer look at how much you are eating for each meal. Try some of these tips to avoid overeating:
- Eat slowly. If you are normally a fast eater, relax and make sure to chew your food thoroughly.
- Stop a quarter of the way through your meal and check your hunger level.
- Remember that you do not have to clean your plate during every meal.
- Learn appropriate portion sizes.
