Learn About Celiac Disease
It may seem that eating gluten-free has become a new trend or fad diet. How can you be sure if you actually suffer from celiac disease? Celiac disease is an autoimmune disease caused by sensitivity to certain sequences of amino acids found in wheat, barley and rye.
If these grains are consumed by a person with celiac disease, an immune response is triggered and damage is caused to the lining small intestine. The only treatment for celiac disease is to eat a gluten-free diet. There are plenty of foods that are naturally gluten-free, such as: fruits, vegetables, beef, poultry, fish, nuts, eggs and more. Today, many restaurants offer gluten-free options.
If you think you have it, or have been diagnosed with celiac disease, consult a registered dietitian in your area who can create a personalized eating plan that works for you and visit our celiac disease page.
