Tip of the Day
National Folic Acid Awareness Week
These seven days — January 8 to 14 — are a time to shine the spotlight on folic acid and its importance for women during childbearing age.
Folic acid can help prevent birth defects of the brain and spine in infants. Women able to become pregnant should take 400 micrograms of folic acid daily from fortified foods, supplements or both, in addition to consuming folate from a varied diet.
For more information on how to meet your folic acid needs visit folicacidinfo.org and consult a registered dietitian in your area.
*Reminder: New name, same commitment to your nutritional health. The American Dietetic Association is now the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
