Find What's Right for You

Every person has different calorie needs depending on their weight, age and physical activity level. Maintaining a healthy weight in a healthy range requires a balance between the calories you take in through food and drink, and the calories you burn through physical activity.

USDA's MyPlate recommends that you enjoy your food, but eat less. This means avoiding oversized portions and not overeating. Practice portion control by using a smaller plate, bowl or glass. Stop eating when you are satisfied, not full.

Cooking at home allows you control over what's in your food. When eating out, be sure to check posted calorie amounts and order baked or broiled dishes instead of fried. Follow our Eating Out Tips to stay healthy away from home.

For more information on creating a well-balanced eating plan that works for you, consult a registered dietitian and check out our Eat Right Nutrition Tips.
