Nutrition Q & A
Can Certain Foods Help Prevent Macular Degeneration?
Research suggests that antioxidants may help prevent or slow the development of some age-related changes in the eyes such as macular degeneration. Choose a diet rich in a variety of fruits and vegetables. These foods contain antioxidants including vitamin A, lutein and zeaxanthin. And, include fish at least twice a week. Fish provides omega-3 fatty acids which also may reduce the risk of macular degeneration.
