Nutrition Q & A
Do Acai Berries Have Special Health Benefits?
Acai berries are the fruit from acai palm trees which are native to the rainforests of South America. Acai berries can be eaten raw or as a juice. The juice is also used in ice cream, jelly and beverages. Like other fruits, acai berries provide antioxidants and other healthful nutrients.
Acai has been promoted as a "superfood" with health benefits for conditions such as osteoarthritis, high cholesterol, weight loss, detoxification, among others. Currently, there is limited scientific research available to back up these claims. Antioxidants are easily found in other fruit and vegetables sources.
