Nutrition Q & A
Do Avocados Have a Lot of Fat?
While avocados do contain fat, the majority is monounsaturated – the same type of fat found in olive oil. One serving (¼ of an avocado) has 5 grams of fat and 56 calories. Avocados also contain vitamin E, vitamin C, folate and potassium. Store unripe avocados in a fruit bowl on the kitchen counter. When they're dark purple or black in color and yield to gentle pressure, they're ready to eat. Add thin slices of avocado to sandwiches or salads.
