Nutrition Q & A
Is Couscous a Grain?
Couscous may look like a grain but it’s actually a type of pasta. The traditional North African version of couscous is made from ground millet. In the United States, it’s made from ground semolina wheat. Couscous is often used in salads, mixed with fruit or served as a side dish. Whole-wheat or regular couscous can be used in a variety of grain dishes. Because it’s made from wheat, it’s a good source of B vitamins.
