Nutrition Q & A
Are Fresh Fruits and Veggies Better than Frozen?
Fresh fruits and vegetables can sometimes be expensive. But substituting frozen vegetables can be just as healthy, if not more so, since they are picked and processed right after harvest. When buying frozen, remember the following tips:
- Purchase frozen fruits and vegetables when on sale – they can keep up to 3 months in your freezer.
- Limit frozen vegetables with added sauces as they tend to have high amounts of sodium.
- The less processed the fruits and vegetables, the less expensive they are -- whole strawberries vs. pre-sliced; plain vegetables vs. with sauce.
