Between school, work and play, we eat many of our meals away from home. Whether it’s a packed lunch, a picnic or restaurant takeout, handling food properly can prevent foodborne illness.
To keep food both delicious and safe, follow these safety guidelines when eating on the go:
- Wash your hands often
- Do not keep foods that may spoil out of refrigeration more than two hours (one hour in hot weather)
- Keep raw meats such as hamburger patties and poultry separate from ready-to-eat items
- Use a meat thermometer to make sure foods are reheated properly.
