CHICAGO – The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation has awarded 206 dietetic scholarships totaling nearly $447,400 to students at the undergraduate, graduate and continuing education levels of study for the 2012-2013 academic year.
As the largest provider of scholarships in the dietetics field, the Academy Foundation has awarded nearly $3.4 million in scholarships to more than 2,400 students over the last ten years. Scholarships are funded by individual donors, the Academy’s state and regional dietetic associations, dietetic practice groups and Academy partners, including:
- Colgate-Palmolive Company
- Commission on Dietetic Registration
- ConAgra Foods
- Mead Johnson Nutrition
“The Foundation takes great pride in providing scholarships to these deserving individuals,” said registered dietitian and Academy Foundation Chair Diane Heller. “With this support, we are helping them fulfill their educational goals, while we hope they, in turn, will help support the Academy’s vision of improving the health of Americans. Without all the continued support of our generous donors, this would not be possible.”
“I have returned to college as a mature-age student with a strong desire to help others improve their health and general well-being and I couldn’t do it without the kindness and generosity of the people such as you,” said Angela Cook upon receiving an Academy Foundation scholarship.
Each year, the Academy Foundation receives up to 750 scholarship applications that are reviewed by the Foundation’s Scholarship Committee, which evaluates applicants, reviews criteria for each scholarship fund and selects the most qualified recipients.
The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation has received consecutive 4-star ratings from Charity Navigator, America's premier independent charity evaluator, for sound fiscal management and commitment to accountability and transparency.
