The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation has been awarded the highest rating for sound fiscal management and commitment to accountability and transparency by Charity Navigator, the country's largest and most-utilized independent evaluator of charities.
For the second consecutive year, Charity Navigator has awarded the Academy Foundation an "exceptional" ranking of four stars out of a possible four, demonstrating adherence to good governance and fiscal responsibility. Only 16 percent of charities have received at least two consecutive four-star evaluations, indicating that Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation outperforms most other charities in America.
"Academy members and Foundation donors deserve thanks for this recognition by Charity Navigator," said registered dietitian Diane W. Heller, chair of the Foundation Board of Directors.
"Through their support, the Foundation is able to continue our mission of advancing public health and nutrition utilizing the expertise of registered dietitians, providing scholarships to dietetics students at all levels of study, presenting leadership and recognition awards to Academy members, granting research dollars and providing support for public education programs like our Kids Eat Right initiative," Heller said.
Charity Navigator provides essential information that gives donors greater confidence in the charitable choices they support. Receiving four stars indicates the Academy’s Foundation is respected by its peers and demonstrates to the public it is worthy of their trust. Under Charity Navigator's formula combining sound fiscal management and accountability, the Academy's Foundation received a score of 60.97 out of a possible 70, placing the Foundation in the "exceptional" category.
"Receiving four out of a possible four stars indicates that your organization adheres to good governance and other best practices that minimize the chance of unethical activities and consistently executes its mission in a fiscally responsible way," said Ken Berger, president and chief executive officer of Charity Navigator.
